How to deal with pain?

The pain which you feel cannot be cured by grieving over it; it can only be cured by knowing the reason behind this calamity. Once you know the reason behind your calamity, I am sure your pain will fade away and you will find peace within difficulty. In shaa Allah.

Know the reason behind your Calamity.

At the time of Hardship, It’s man’s nature to be impatient but when he [true believer] knows the reason behind the hardship. He begins to display patience. Patience is the best remedy for every trouble, if you had patience you would not be in trouble. Because patience helps us to stay positive in difficult situation and makes our life more easy and beautiful. If you want to make your life beautiful, learn to be patient. Remember! if you don't learn how to be patient, the pain will continue.

For this, Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said; ...Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience." [Sahih al-Bukhari 1469]

What is the reason behind the Calamity ?

The answer is very simple and easy, Test. A test from Allah SWT, because the life of this world nothing but a Test.

Why does Allah test us? Test to check the quality of the faith and patience in you. In this test if you pass you will win the pleasure of Allah and achieve the highest rank in Jannah. If you fail, you are the big loser; you will lose paradise as well as pleasure of Allah SWT. Be careful about the test of Allah SWT and don't lose this opportunity to get closer to Allah SWT.

Life

Life is a big question until you read the Quran. Find out your purpose of life in the light of Qur'an and Hadith.

1] What is Life ?

Islam teaches, the life of this world is nothing but a Test.

A Muslim must realize that all the life and its ups and downs are a test for a Muslim. The goods of it and the bad, all are a test and a Muslim has to try to remain grateful in the former and steadfast in the latter.

Allah SWT says about the life and its purpose in various places in the holy Qur'an, some of those is:

We have created man from a mixed sperm-drop to put him to a test;… (Qur’an 76 : 2)

It is He who has created death and life to put you to the test... (Qur’an 67 : 2)

Surely, We have fashioned man to toil (and undergo a trial) (Qur'an 90 : 4)

He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days—and His Throne was upon the waters—in order to test which of you is best in deeds… [Quran 11 : 7]

The above Ayats of the Quran clearly indicates that the life of this world is nothing but a Test. Always remember and never forget this word, we do not come to this world to live or enjoy life; rather, we are come here to give a test. Indeed our true life will start after death.

2] Why Does Allah Test Us ?

Test to check the quality of the faith and patience in you. In this test if you pass you will win the pleasure of Allah and achieve the highest rank in Jannah. If you fail, you are the big loser; you will lose paradise as well as pleasure of Allah SWT. Be careful about the test of Allah SWT and don't lose this opportunity to get closer to Allah SWT.

Allah SWT said in the Quran : It is He who has created death and life to put you to the test and see which of you is most virtuous in your deeds... (Qur’an 67 : 2)

Do men think that they will be left alone on saying "we believe" and that they will not be Tested? we did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are True from those who are False. (Qur'an 29 : 2 - 3)

Do you think that you will enter Paradise before Allâh tests those of you who fought (in His Cause) and (also) tests those who are As-Sâbirun (the patient)? (Qur’an 3 : 142)

We will test you till We know those who strive among you as well as those who are patient. We will test your reactions. [Quran 47:31]

It is important to go through life's trials, sir. To find out who is patient and who is impatient, who is grateful and who is ungrateful, and who is a true and false Muslim.

Everything in our life under trial, without trial you and me wil never know how good we are. When a person is put with a test, their true colors come out. Shaytan a classic example, he looked good until he was tried. When he was tried and Allah ordered shaytan to prostrate to Adam. He says I can't, Aha now the real colour of shaytan shows up.

3] How Does Allah Test Us ?

People think that tests only come in the form of hardship, Allah also tests us with ease, its often in the test of ease that we fail most.

...We are putting all of you to a test by passing you through bad and good conditions,... (Qur’an 21 : 35)

We are continuously tested either through blessings, to see how thankful we are or through trials, to see how patient we are.

How does Allah SWT test us with Bad condition in life?

And We will test you with some fear and hunger, and a shortage in money and lives and fruits. And give good news to those who are patient. (Qur'an 2 : 155)

Or think you that you will enter paradise without such (Trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments... (Qur’an 2 : 214)

...He tests them by limiting their provision... (Quran 89 : 16)

You (believers) will certainly be tested by the loss of your property and lives... (Qur'an 3 : 186)

...We are putting all of you to a test by passing you through bad and good conditions,... (Qur’an 21 : 35)

Surely, We shall continue to test you, till We know the ones who struggle hard for Allah and remain steadfast; and We will test you in all your affairs! (Quran 47:31)

...and We are always putting people to the test. (Quran 23:30)

How does Allah SWT test us with Good condition in life?

...his Lord puts him through a Test by granting him honor and a life of ease, ... (Qur'an 89 : 15)

… and He raised some of you above others in rank, in order to Test you in accordance with what He has given you. …, (Qur’an 6 : 165)

and know that your worldly possessions and your children are only a test... (Qur'an 8 : 28)

Your wealth and your children are only a test... (Quran 64 : 15)

If hard times touch man, he calls on Us. Then, when We favor him with a Our blessing, he says, "I have only been given this only because of my knowledge." In fact, it is only a test, though most of them do not know. (Qur’an 39 : 49)

4] What to do when Allah Tests us with Hardship ?

Be patient when Allah SWT tests you.

Allah SWT said in the Quran : ...endure with patience whatever affliction befalls you... (Qur'an 31 : 17)

...show patience in hardship and adversity, and in times of distress. Such are the true believers;... (Quran 2:177)

So be patient with beautiful patience. [Quran 70 : 5]

and be patient for the sake of your Lord. [Quran 74:7]

Be patient; God is with those who are patient in hard times. [Quran 8:46]

I don't care how hard life gets, my hardship could not defeat my faith, In shaa Allah I am not losing my faith in Allah.

Whenever a true believer faces any problem, instead of complaining, he says, "Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un." [We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return]. In the Quran, Allah SWT has described these people as rightly guided persons.

who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return." Such are the people on whom there are blessings and Mercy from Allah; and they are the ones that are rightly guided. (Quran 2 : 156 - 157)

O Allah, I will remain patient in order to please you, even though my sorrow kills me, I will still stand with patience. It's enough for me that you're pleased.

...And Allah‘s pleasure is above all. That is the supreme success. [Quran 9:72]

Say. Surely my prayer and my sacrifice and my life and my death are (all) for Allah, the Lord of the worlds; (Qur'an 6 : 162)

Reward of Patience

Patience is a huge act worship and is reserved only for those who are tested with adversity. Do not let your suffering go to waste, and extract maximum reward from it, through patience.

It was narrated from Abu Umamah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Allah says: ‘O son of Adam! If you are patient and seek reward at the moment of first shock, I will not approve of any reward for you less than Paradise.’” [Sunan Ibn Majah 1597]

Your patience is never a waste, there is a reward for it. The reward of patience in the face of misfortune is more than what has been lost.

Some beautiful promise [gift] from Allah SWT for those who are patient.

Allah SWT said in the Quran : ...Only those who are patient shall receive their rewards in full, without reckoning. (Qur’an 39:10)

And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. [Quran : 76:12]

And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. [Quran : 76:20]

And no human being can imagine what blissful delights are kept hidden for them as a reward for what they used to do. [Quran 32:17]

The righteous will enjoy the delights of Paradise, (Qur’an 82 : 13)

Indeed, the righteous will be amid Gardens and springs, ˹joyfully˺ receiving what their Lord will grant them. Before this ˹reward˺ they were truly good-doers ˹in the world˺: (Qur'an 51 : 15 - 16)

In return for your patience, you will be blessed with such things that you will be amazed. Allahu Akbar that is the reward of patience, It is difficult to be patient but to waste the reward of patience is worse.

They will have whatever they desire with their Lord. That is the reward of the good-doers. (Qur'an 39 : 34)

(And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." (22) (Quran 76 : 22)

Don't be sad, pain in this world is temporary, handle it with patience. And In shaa Allah, a greater reward awaits you.

"Those will be rewarded with the highest place [in Paradise] because of their patience.." (Quran-25:75).

In shaa Allah, your patience will take you to most beautiful place in Jannah.

And your Lord is sure to give you [so much], and you will be satisfied. [Quran 93 : 5]

Allahu Akbar, this is the reward of your patience. Remember, if you lose patience, you will lose paradise. Patience may be bitter now, but the end result will be sweeter. One day Allah will grant you so much happiness that you will forget about all of the pain you have endured.

Those who endure in the face of adversity will definitely live a happy and enjoyable life in this world and also have great success in the hereafter.

What to do when Allah Tests us with Blessings?

Allah SWT said in the Quran : …and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me. [Quran 2:152]

...The fact is, that the unguided human is ever ungrateful. [Quran 17:67]

...Very few from My slaves are thankful [Quran 34:13]

...My Lord! Inspire me to ˹always˺ be thankful for Your favours which You blessed me... [Quran 46:15]

Narrated AbuBakrah: When anything came to the Prophet (ﷺ) which caused pleasure (or, by which he was made glad), he prostrated himself in gratitude to Allah. [Sunan Abi Dawud 2774]

Believer attitude during Trial

Suhaib reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it. [Sahih Muslim 2999]

A mature believer knows that when good happens, there is benefit in it. And when bad happens there is also benefit in that. And both are a test from Allah.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The example of a believer is that of a fresh green plant the leaves of which move in whatever direction the wind forces them to move and when the wind becomes still, it stand straight. Such is the similitude of the believer: He is disturbed by calamities (but is like the fresh plant he regains his normal state soon). And the example of a disbeliever is that of a pine tree (which remains) hard and straight till Allah cuts it down when He will." (See Hadith No. 546 and 547, Vol. 7). [Sahih al-Bukhari 7466]
